What Basecrete Does for Your Foundation
Basecrete is a high-performance waterproofing membrane that creates a flexible, protective layer on concrete and masonry foundation walls. Unlike paint or standard coatings that crack and peel, Basecrete bonds directly to your foundation walls and moves with normal concrete expansion and contraction.
This specialized coating system seals porous concrete, fills surface imperfections, and creates a waterproof barrier that prevents moisture from penetrating your foundation walls. The flexible membrane maintains its integrity through temperature changes, ground movement, and the settling that naturally occurs in foundations.
For Treasure Valley homeowners, Basecrete provides protection against the specific challenges our region faces. Clay soils retain moisture against foundations. Winter freezing expands water in concrete cracks. Spring thaw brings groundwater surges. Basecrete protects your foundation through all these conditions.
Professional Application Process
Preparation:
- Clean the wall(s) by removing any debris, rubble, dirt, etc.
- Dampen the area of installation. Ensure the area is moist but not soaked.
Mixing:
- Pour the liquid Bascrete into a mixing container first.
- Add the dry mix on top of the liquid Basecrete.
- Do not add water.
- Aim for a “milkshake” consistency. If the mixture is too thick, add more liquid Bascrete.
- The reference mixture is 1 gallon of liquid Basecrete per 50lbs dry mix bag (covers 40-50 sqft @ 1/8” thick).
Mixing Process:
- Mix the liquid and dry mix until you achieve a milkshake-like consistency.
- Let the mixture sit for 4 minutes.
- Re-mix the mixture for 1 minute.
Application using Troweling:
- Apply 1/8” thick at a time using a trowel.
Application using Spraying:
- Apply 1/16” thick at a time using a sprayer.
Application using Rolling:
- Apply 1/16” thick at a time using a roller.
- Make only two passes – one pass vertically and one pass horizontally.
Post-Application:
- If the customer wants to paint over the Basecrete, they will need to use a different product like epoxy.
- Wait for 4 weeks before painting.
- Saturate the surface with water and neutralize with a 1:8 solution of muriatic acid.
- Rinse with clean water after neutralizing.
